One of the many reasons Deadpool became the highest grossing R-Rated movie of all time is because of the Merc's infamous foul mouth.

For the sequel, Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool gang are introducing the ever-grumpy mutant Cable, the character's oft-comic book companion and witty foil.

Last week, Josh Brolin officially took the role, the actor seemingly already getting into character. On Instagram, Brolin uploaded a photo of himself covered in blue gunk with some very Cable-like hashtags, including #ryanreynoldsismybitch.

When Brolin was announced as Cable - beating out the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Michael Shannon, and Stranger Things actor David Harbour - some Marvel fans were left confused.

Brolin already plays the Marvel character Thanos: however, Thanos appears in the Marvel Studios series while Cable will be part of Fox's X-Men, the two being completely separate.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel head Kevin Feige recently spoke about Brolin appearing in both Studios films, saying: "We don't have anything written into our contracts about other roles that people can do. Indiana Jones and Han Solo are the same person … it hasn't been a problem. And I think Thanos and Cable are two very different characters."

John Wick co-director David Leitch will helm the upcoming Deadpool sequel. Zazie Beetz has already been confirmed to be playing the mutant Domino, while Brianna Hildebrand will be back as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

A release date for Deadpool 2 has yet to be announced. Avenger: Infinity War — in which Brolin plays Thanos — reaches cinemas 4 May 2018.
