Avengers: Infinity War is king no more.

Marvel's unstoppable titan has finally been waylaid, by another Marvel film of all things. Deadpool 2 knocked the film off the top spot with an estimated $125 million at the domestic box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It's the third-biggest domestic opening of the year to date, behind Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther; it's yet to see what competition it might face when Solo: A Star Wars Story drops at the end of the month.

The results are proof the franchise certainly isn't a one-hit wonder, though the sequel wasn't able to match the North American opening for the first Deadpool, which bowed to $132.4 million in February 2016, the best in the history of R-rated titles.

That said, Deadpool 2 did manage to pick up extra steam at the global box office, with its $301 million opening actually making it the biggest international debut ever for an R-rated film.

It's also Fox's biggest opening of all time internationally; impressive considering that's without the help of China, where the film is yet to land a release date. X-Men: Days of Future Past was previously their biggest earner with $174 million, while Fox's Logan was the previous record holder for the biggest international opening for an R-rated film, with $160 million.

Deadpool 2 sees our antihero (Ryan Reynolds) face Josh Brolin's Cable, a time-travelling mutant with a metal arm and penchant for chaos, on the hunt for a young mutant with fire-wielding capabilities, played by Hunt for the Wilderpeople's Julian Dennison.

The film also stars Morena Baccarin, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Jack Kesy, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Shioli Kutsuna, Eddie Marsan, Terry Crews, and Stefan Kapičić.
