From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Today in ‘Headlines You Didn’t Think You’d See Today’, David Tennant will be working with Fireman Sam to fight off an Alien invasion in a new feature-length film.

Announced at MIPTV, the Doctor Who actor has joined the voice cast of Fireman Sam: Alien Alert, which is due out next year.

Toy giant’s Mattel announced Tennent will be alien-hunter-cum-TV-presenter Buck Douglas in the 60-minute special.

At the same event, they also announced plans to take Bob the Builder global with Bob the Builder: Mega Machines - The Movie, set for TV and DVD release in 2017.

Just a week ago, the toy manufacturer announced Thomas the Tank Engine would soon be joined by a whole host of international friends in an attempt to expand the brand.

Meanwhile, Aliens aren’t the weirdest thing Tennant has fought recently, having reprised his role as the eighth Doctor to fight internet trolls in a new audio-drama.
