From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Managing somehow to be both everyone's dream and nightmare boss; The Office's David Brent helped turned the BBC sitcom into an instant cult classic back in 2001.

And now he's back. Ricky Gervais' star-making character is about to embark on his own solo cinematic adventure, and the first trailer proves he's straight back to his old tricks.

The BBC Films production sees Brent now working as a travelling rep salesman for both cleaning and ladies' personal hygiene products, though he still hasn't abandoned his dreams of becoming an international rock star with his band Foregone Conclusion. As he brings together a group of session musicians, plus a sidekick for that all-important street cred and an overpriced tour manager, he'll embark on a self-financed tour of the country.

Now, the question is: will we be getting a Steve Carell-starring solo film of The Office's (possibly superior?) US series boss, Michael Scott? Or are we just holding out for a feature length version of Threat Level Midnight?

David Brent: Life on the Road hits UK cinemas 19 August.
