Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Dakota Johnson has revealed her favourite, “beautiful”, Fifty Shades of Grey sex scene, and it might not be what you are expecting.

The US newcomer plays naïve student Anastasia Steele alongside Jamie Dornan’s BDSM-loving billionaire Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of EL James’ erotic novel.

But while her character features in the book’s raunchiest moments, blindfolds, whips, chains and all, it is a gentler, subtler scene that Johnson likes most.

“The virginity scene is something that is so beautiful and the way that [cinematographer] Seamus McGarvey and [director] Sam Taylor-Johnson shot that scene, it’s really incredible.

“And the colours! It’s so saturated, and then just watching a really profound moment in a young girl’s life, I think that was pretty special to do.”

One moment that cinema-goers won’t be seeing this Valentine’s Day weekend is the infamous “tampon scene”, which Taylor-Johnson insists was “never even discussed” (more on that one here).

“The sex scenes are integral to the story,” she told Variety last month. “They are not gratuitous. It tracks the story.”

Last week, Taylor Johnson confirmed that two sequels were in the pipeline for Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, but studio Universal is yet to make this official.

Fifty Shades of Grey hits UK cinemas this coming Friday 13 February, after premiering at the Berlin Film Festival today.
