Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Theatre

Having just spent the last few months at the Chichester Festival Theatre, I loved Richard Clifford's production of Heartbreak House, and found it absolutely captivating.

Visual Arts

The Pallant House Gallery in the heart of Chichester. Thoroughly enjoyed the Peter Blake exhibition. Spent a fabulous hour pushing the buttons on the free jukebox. Great if the weather sucks and it beats going to the gym.

Music

The delights of living with small children mean any time spent on my own passes in glorious silence. My kids love to listen to music and I use it as a distraction technique. I can get a good hour to unload the dishwasher and hang out the washing by captivating them with the soundtrack of The Wizard of Oz, One Direction, Maroon 5, Duffy, Selena Gomez...

Television

I sobbed daily watching the Olympic coverage. However have just finished the first episode of Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom. I feel an addiction coming on.

Books

Looking forward to completing Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall.

Alexandra Gilbreath is in 'The Merry Wives of Windsor', Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon from 25 October to 12 January 2013 (www.rsc.org.uk)
