From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chris Hemsworth will play Hulk Hogan in a new Netflix biopic.

The film will be directed by Todd Phillips and written by Scott Silver, with the duo having previously collaborated on the upcoming DC Comics standalone film The Joker. John Pollono (Stronger) will also co-write with Silver.

A twelve-time world champion, Hogan was arguably the most popular wrestler in the world between 1984 and 1993, thanks to his heroic role in the World Wresting Federation. He also enjoyed an extensive acting career, beginning with his antagonist role in 1982’s Rocky III.

Born Terry Gene Bollea, he began his career in the late 1970s in the Florida wrestling circuit and, when he started in the WWF, he frequently squared off against Andre the Giant.

The film is set to focus on Hogan’s rise to fame and the origins of his “Hulkster” and “Hulkamania” persona. Hogan himself will act as a consultant on the project, alongside serving as executive producer.

Michael Sugar (Spotlight) will produce, alongside Hemsworth, Eric Bischoff, Phillips and Bradley Cooper – the latter two will produce via their company Joint Effort.
