Bridger Walker from Wyoming made headlines this week after jumping in between his four-year-old sister and the dog, saying: “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.” He was left with huge bite marks and bruises on his face and needed more than 90 stitches.
After Walker’s aunt started an Instagram account documenting his journey and shared that the boy was a Marvel fan, the message quickly caught the attention of actor Anne Hathaway, who wrote on Instagram: “I’m not an Avenger, but I know a superhero when I see one.”
“I can only hope I’m half as brave in my life as you are in yours, Bridger,” she continued. “Hey @markruffalo, do you need a teammate??”
Since then, Walker has received private messages from the likes of Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Hugh Jackman, Zachary Levi and directors the Russo brothers, with Walker’s aunt sharing a special video message they had received from Chris Evans to her Instagram.
“Hey Bridger, this is Captain America here, how you doing, buddy?” Evans said. “I read your story, I heard what you did [and] pal, you’re a hero. What you did was so brave, so selfless, your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother.”
Evans then promised to send Walker an “authentic” Captain America shield as a thank you, saying: “Keep being the man you are, we need people like you.”
