Cher has revealed that she will appear in the sequel to Mamma Mia.

The Oscar-winning actress and singer wrote on Twitter: "Well... I'm in Momma Mia 2."

It has not yet been announced which role the 71-year-old will play. She would not answer questions about her role from fans but did tweet "FERNANDO" with a thinking emoji in reference to the Abba song.

She also confirmed that she had been rehearsing dance routines, writing: "Just went through two dance numbers, everyone's great."

Cher is currently in the UK where filming for the follow-up to the Abba musical is taking place. This will be her first film appearance since 2010.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is currently being filmed in the UK and on location in Croatia, and will include Abba songs not featured in the 2008 movie.

Many stars of the original film are set to return, including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Dame Julie Walters.

The BBC reports that the plot will focus on the relationships between the characters played by Streep, Brosnan and Colin Firth in their youth. A younger version of Streep's character Donna will be played by Cinderella star Lily James.

Mamma Mia! is the highest-grossing film musical of all time, taking more than £450 million. The sequel is set for release in summer 2018.
