From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

In a blissful breakaway from typical online reactions to female-fronted reboots, the first trailer for the new Charlie’s Angels has been met with widespread praise.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the A-list theme song the preview clip teases, along with celebrating the “queer energy” of star Kristen Stewart.

Pop visionary Janelle Monae, whose 2018 single “Make Me Feel” soundtracks a portion of the trailer, led the raves, joking on Twitter that the preview “cured all my hormonal pimples".

Others were similarly praising that the film was written and directed by actress and filmmaker Elizabeth Banks, who also stars as one of a number of different Bosleys guiding the titular Angels. Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska make up the rebooted trio.

There has also been a supportive reaction to the film’s theme song, which is teased in the background of the trailer, and finds Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey collaborating together for the first time.

“[Destiny’s Child’s] “Independent Women” still reigns supreme as the [best] Charlie’s Angels song”, one tweet read, “but the new song sounds better than I was imagining.” Even if some struggled to hear Del Rey’s vocals in the mix...

The most significant applause, however, has been found in Twitter’s lesbian community, with a number of viral tweets highlighting the reboot’s undeniable queer energy.

“Can’t believe they made a Charlie’s Angels exclusively for lesbians,” one tweet read. Another declared: “New Charlie’s Angels can be pandering or tokenism or whatever, I don’t give a damn! As a lesbian I’ll see it at least three times.”

Stewart, returning to high-budget studio movies after several years of indie wistfulness, has additionally been singled out for praise. In particular the vast collection of wigs she sports in the film and what promises to be an abundance of costume changes.

“Kristen Stewart’s hair in the new Charlie’s Angels trailer already f***** three women and didn’t text any of them back,” author Kristen Arnett tweeted.

Lesbian site Autostraddle also covered the trailer release with the incredibly self-explanatory headline, “Kristen Stewart Kicks Ass, Looks Gay as Hell”.

Charlie’s Angels will be released on 15 November, 2019 in the US and 29 November, 2019 in the UK.
