From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Channing Tatum has written a children’s book while in coronavirus lockdown, which he will dedicate to his six-year-old daughter, Everly.

The Magic Mike star announced the project – which will be entitled The One and Only Sparkella – in an Instagram post on Monday (31 August).

“Guys, I don’t know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine,” he wrote. “I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7-year-old daughter’s room. And I ended up finding my inner child.

“So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me. Thanks for reading.”

People also obtained the book’s dedication, in which Tatum describes his daughter as “the most brilliant magical being that I have ever known” and “my greatest teacher”.

The book will be published in the US by Feiwel & Friends in May 2021.

The One and Only Sparkella’s plot concerns a young girl named Ella who gets teased at school for her love of sparkly things, and for wearing disco ball shoes.

Ella’s father then steps in to teach her about self-love and self-expression.

Tatum’s next on-screen role is America: The Motion Picture, an animated comedy produced for Netflix, in which Tatum will voice US president George Washington.
