Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?

Turns out, the red-clobbered heroine won’t be hiding away much longer as Netflix are bringing Carmen to their streaming service for an animated series.

That’s not all Netflix are doing with the character, however. According to Deadline, they have since bought the live-action rights to Carmen Sandiego, with Gina Rodriguez — who recently appeared in the Netflix-released movie Annihilation — set to play the titular character.

Rodriguez will voice Carmen on the animated series and also serve as a producer on the feature-film adaptation. No director or writer has yet been attached, but the standalone movie will reportedly “embrace the beloved ’90s property”.

Of the animated TV series, a description from Variety reads: "The series will be based on the iconic educational computer game franchise that followed Sandiego as she travelled across the world stealing national treasures.

"It will offer an intimate look into the character’s past where viewers will not only follow her escapades but also learn who in the world is Carmen Sandiego and why she became a super thief."

Carmen Sandiego first appeared in the video-game Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, a game often used in America classrooms to help teach geography. The character later appeared in across various media, including further games, TV shows, board games, and books.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez currently leads the TV series Jane the Virgin and will next voice a character in the Channing Tatum, Zendaya, and Danny DeVito featuring animation Small Foot.
