From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In a new picture shared by his eldest daughter Rumer Willis, the Die Hard star is seen wearing an orange utility boiler suit from the 1998 asteroid movie Armageddon, which he paired with black trainers and a makeshift face mask made out of a bandana.
“He said this is ‘His saving the [world] outfit’ (Actual one from Armageddon),” Willis’s daughter wrote on Instagram, adding the hashtag: “#thismanisadamnledgend.”
Willis starred in the film as Harry Stamper, an oil driller who helps NASA divert an asteroid on a collision course to Earth. Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck also starred in the film.
The actor has been quarantining in Idaho with his ex-wife Demi Moore and three daughters, Rumer, Tallulah and Scout, during the Covid-19 pandemic, sending the internet into a frenzy in April after a picture of the family wearing matching pyjamas was released.
Some fans questioned why the actor had chosen to be with his older children rather than wife of 11 years Emma Heming Willis and his two young children, but daughter Scout, 28, set the record straight.

“My step-mom was going to come up here too with my little sisters,” she said. “My younger sister... never gotten a talk about not f***ing with hypodermic needles… she found one and she actually tried to poke her shoe with it and poked her foot.
“So my step-mom had to be in LA waiting to get the results for taking her to the doctor. My dad came up here early and then travel got crazy and my step-mom stayed in LA with my little sisters.”
