From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. British comedy drama Pride looks set to be turned into a musical, according to the film’s screenwriter Stephen Beresford.

The writer confirmed he was “in talks” with West End producers to adapt the film for the stage.

Speaking to London Live about the stage adaptation, Beresford said: “We have talked about that, yes, it has been discussed, I think it could work.

“These days, when films are created all those things, these possibilities, are taken into account when they are sorting out the rights. We’ll see.”

If the musical goes ahead, the film will follow in the footsteps of Stephen Daldry’s Billy Elliot, which has enjoyed a nine year run on the West End.

Pride is helmed by Matthew Warchus who directed the West End adaptation of Matilda and is set to take over from Kevin Spacey as Artistic Director of The Old Vic.

The film, which follows a group of gay activists from London who head to the South Wales valleys to support he miners in the 1984 strike, has received glowing reviews across the board.

The Independent’s film critic Geoffrey Macnab gave the movie five stars, calling it a “feelgood hit”.

Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott, Dominic West, Paddy Considine and Imelda Staunton star in the all-British cast.

Pride is in cinemas now.
