From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Fans have received their first look at Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar,  a new comedy from the screenwriting duo behind Bridesmaids.

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo both write and star in the forthcoming film, which sees the actors portray best friends who decide to leave their small Midwestern town for the first time ever, trading in their usual lives for a sunny vacation to Florida. Things take a turn when they become entangled in a villain’s murderous plot.

A teaser trailer has been released ahead of the film’s 12 February release.

Although it does not reveal Wiig or Mumolo in character, the clip begins with close-up shots of their wigs as the pair discuss the premise of trailers.

“Barb, what if we had a movie?” Wiig’s character asks Mumolo’s. “Gosh, I can almost see our trailer now.”

The video then cuts to a colourful montage of the duo enjoying their holiday, soundtracked to Madonna’s “Holiday”. Eagle-eyed viewers will also spot stars Jamie Dornan and Damon Wayans Jr.

Barb & Star marks a reunion for co-writers Wiig and Mulomo after their Oscar-nominated comedy Bridesmaids in 2011.

Wendi McLendon-Covey (who played Beverly in the hit comedy) is also set to appear in the forthcoming film.

Barb & Star can be rented on all on-demand platforms in the UK from 12 February.
