Your support makes all the difference.The 61st BFI London Film Festival will open with a screening of Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, Breathe, starring Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy.
Based on the true story of Robin Cavendish, the first trailer has debuted online alongside the news. Watch above.
Played by Hacksaw Ridge’s Garfield, Cavendish became a world-renown advocate for the disabled after being diagnosed with polio, aged 28.
With help from wife, Diana Blacker (The Crown’s Foy), he would help popularise Teddy Hall’s revolutionary wheelchair that featured an in-built respirator.
Speaking about opening the LFF opening gala, Serkis said: "On behalf of the cast and crew of Breathe, we are absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured to be the Opening Gala performance in this year’s incredibly richly diverse and world-class BFI London Film Festival.
“Breathe is a deeply personal story to all of us at The Imaginarium and to have the European premiere of my directorial debut in London, my hometown, is beyond my wildest dreams.”
The film reaches cinemas 27 October.
