From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The first trailer for Borat 2 is finally here, with Amazon dropping the clip ahead of the film’s release later this month.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s long-awaited return as Kazakhstani reporter Borat will arrive on 23 October.

The British comedian secretly filmed the follow up to his hit 2006 mockumentary Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan during the coronavirus pandemic.

The hilarious new trailer sees Borat as hapless as ever. In it, he is accompanied by his daughter (Irina Nowak) who he has brought to “Yankee land” with the intention of marrying her off to someone “close to the throne”.

Borat can be seen engaging in his usual hijinks and making people uncomfortable with his astounding lack of self-awareness.

Amazon has also released the first poster for the film, which depicts the titular character sporting his notorious mankini – this time fashioned from a face mask. The poster boasts the tagline: “Wear mask. Save live [sic].”

Borat 2 – or its official title: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe To American Regime For Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan – will be released later this month ahead of the US election on 3 November.

Yesterday (30 September) in promotion for the sequel, a parody Twitter account styled to represent the Kazakhstan government shared a post praising Donald Trump’s performance in the recent presidential debate.

It read: “Impressive and amazing result for strong premier who always put America and Kazakhstan first!"

The tweet was accompanied by a video, voiced by Cohen, gushing over the US president.

Much of the film was shot in the USA in the run-up to the presidential election. During filming, Cohen found himself in dangerous situations so frequently that he had to wear a bulletproof vest.

Borat 2 will be available to watch on Amazon Prime from 23 October.
