From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fandango has reported that the Marvel film - directed by Ryan Coogler - has sold more advance tickets than any other superhero film let alone film released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Earlier this month, the film overtook previous Marvel champion Captain America: Civil War in its first 24 hours alone and has now surpassed pre-sales amassed by Batman v Superman to become the most anticipated superhero film of all time.
Black Panther's advance ticket success will most likely be emulated on other sites signalling that, upon its release, it could smash opening weekend estimates of $90m (£66.8m).
If this is the case, the film may even soar past Deadpool's $132m (£97.9m) to become the highest-grossing February release of all time globally - a likely bet considering Batman v Superman achieved $166m.
Many believe that Black Panther will signal the start of the MCU's long-mooted second phase with its exploration of Wakanda, the fictional home to the warrior king T'Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman.
Starring alongside Nyong'o and Boseman are an impressive ensemble including Michael B. Jordan, Forrest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis and The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira. It will be Marvel's first film to be led by a person of colour.
The film premiered in Los Angeles on Monday (29 January) following which social media reactions praised the film as one of Marvel's greatest successes to date.
Black Panther is released in the UK on 12 February with its US release arriving a week later (18 February).
