From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Based on Josh Malerman’s 2014 debut novel of the same name, the story follows a mother (Bullock) and her two children who navigate a world overcome by monsters.
The catch? The monsters transform into a person’s darkest fear, leading them to kill themselves – therefore, survivors of the initial infestation wear blindfolds to avoid seeing the monsters.
The premise has already drawn comparisons to A Quiet Place, the horror mega-hit starring John Krasinski which followed a family that traverses an apocalyptic world where killer monsters hunt with sound.
Bird Box is directed by Susanne Bier – best known for the film In A Better World and BBC series The Night Manager – and also starring BD Wong, Jacki Weaver, and Rosa Salazar.
The film reaches Netflix on the 21 December and will have a limited cinema run in America.
