'The Favourite' leads British Independent Film Awards 2018 nominations as Olivia Colman scores leading actress nod
Emma Stone and Rachel also pick up supporting actress nominations

Your support makes all the difference.The Favourite leads the British Independent Film Awards nominees with 13 nominations, including best British independent film and leading actress for Olivia Colman.
Colman – who will soon take over from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown – plays Queen Anne in the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed comedy-drama film, while Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz play two courtiers vying for her affection in an 18th century court. Both actors are also nominated in the supporting actress category.
Weisz has also been nominated for leading actress field for her role in Jewish drama Disobedience, alongside Gemma Arterton for The Escape, Jessie Buckley for Beast and Maxine Peake for Funny Cow.
Stone and Weisz are joined in the supporting actress category by Nina Arianda for Stan & Ollie, Rachel McAdams for Disobedience and Molly Wright for Apostasy.
Arianda’s co-star Steve Coogan has scored a best actor nomination for his performance as Stan Laurel. He will compete against Rupert Everett for The Happy Prince, Joe Cole for A Prayer Before Dawn, Joaquin Phoenix for You Were Never Really Here and Charlie Plummer for Lean On Pete.
Steve Buscemi is nominated in the supporting actor category for Lean on Pete, alongside Barry Keoghan and Evan Peters for American Animals, Alessandro Nivola for Disobedience and Dominic West for Colette.
Heist film American Animals picked up 11 nominations, followed closely by Beast with 10 and You Were Never Really Here with eight. All three are nominated for best British independent film, as is Disobedience.
Buckley and Wright are nominated in the most promising newcomer category, alongside Michaela Coel for Been So Long, Liv Hill for Jellyfish and Molly Wright for Apostasy.
Winners will be announced at the British Independent Film Awards ceremony on December 2 at London’s Old Billingsgate.
