From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Beyoncé is looking to star in a remake of A Star is Born, both co-starring and directed by Bradley Cooper. The film will also mark Cooper's feature film directing debut.

The New York Post claims production on the film is indeed going ahead with the musician on board, though it won't be prepped to start filming until the end of next year, potentially January 2017.

This isn't the first time the singer's been attached to the role, with the property having been in development for several years now, with Clint Eastwood originally on the cards to direct. However, it does potentially look like Cooper's drive to get his debut feature out of the gate might be the factor needed to finally push this project into production.

It's hard to get bitter about Cooper re-hashing a classic tale; not when it's a film which has been produced 3 times in the past, with its most iconic incarnation itself being a remake. The original, and very first, A Star is Born saw Janet Gaynor and Frederic March star as the young, spirited ingenue and older, downward spiralling actor whose love is tested by their wildly forking paths. The definitive version came in 1954, when Geoge Cukor directed Judy Garland and James Mason in the roles; the film was then again remade in 1976 with Barbara Streisand and Kris Krisofferson. With past history considered, Beyoncé does appear to be the perfect choice to take on the role in any future productions; as each incarnation of the rising star-narrative has put its generation's most iconic voice in the spotlight.

With an entire year until production starts, Cooper will certainly have the opportunity to sign up for a couple of roles to shoot first; though his slate at the moment is looking fairly minimal. Outside of David O. Russell's Joy and his reprisal in the role of Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the only other projects on his plate appear to be voicing an animation and another rumoured directorial feature, Honeymoon with Harry, starring both Cooper and Robert De Niro.

Joy hits UK theatres on 1 January.
