From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Matt Damon has teased Ben Affleck for allowing Robert Pattinson to take over the role of Batman.
The pair, who are long-time friends and worked together on Good Will Hunting, appeared in a promotional video for the Eastern Congo Initiative and Water.org.
In the video, they discuss how best to advertise the fundraiser, with Affleck telling Damon: “Tell something they’re interested in like, ‘Hey, come see me Jason Bourne, Batman and...”
However, he is interrupted by Damon, who shoots back: “Robert Pattinson’s coming?”
“No, Jeremy Renner will be there though,” Affleck replied, in reference to Renner’s appearance in The Bourne Legacy.
“Jeremy Renner did not play Jason Bourne. He expanded the Bourne universe,” Damon responded, adding: “Pattinson took your job.”
Affleck is known for playing Batman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as in Justice League (2017).
Pattinson’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader will be seen in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which has been shooting in Liverpool this week.
Production had to be paused when a member of the film’s cast – reportedly Pattinson – tested positive for coronavirus in early September.
The Batman will be released on 4 March 2022, after its previous 2021 release date was pushed back earlier this month.
