The actor shared the news on Sunday, posting a short clip of the DC Comics villain on Twitter much to the excitement of fans.
The Wrap later confirmed that Deathstroke will be Batman’s chief nemesis in the solo film that Affleck is co-writing, directing and starring in, citing an exclusive source “with knowledge of the situation”.
The infamous, super-powered assassin also known as Slade first appeared in a comic in 1980, before meeting The Dark Knight in 1991 and destroying him as part of the “City of Assassins” storyline. Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, he was ranked as the 24th best villain of all-time by Wizard magazine.
Rumours of Deathstroke’s role in the new Batman movie first began circulating after Arrow creator Marc Guggenheim explained that the character would not be returning to the TV series because he is “currently tied up in another DC project”.
Speculation is also rife that Deathstroke will be making a cameo appearance in Justice League, which is filming at the moment, as the villain appears to be walking across the hangar of Batman’s Flying Fox, used as his operations base.
Warner Bros is yet to confirm the news, with Justice League scheduled for release on 10 November 2017 also starring Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller as the Flash.
