The film version of Baywatch has been in production for a year now so a trailer was undoubtedly going to spring up sooner or later.

Over the past 24 hours, two teasers dropped previewing what to expect from the upcoming film, but now the first full trailer has landed - and there are no surprises which direction the producers have chosen.

We see Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's character - the one made famous by David Hasselhoff in the 90s series - in action for what will surely be the most high-octane scene involving a lifeguard ever filmed.

Baywatch Teaser Trailer

At one stage, female lead character Summer Quinn (Alexandra Daddario) accuse Zac Efron's lifeguard of staring at her breasts. "You should look at my face," she tells him.

"I'm trying," he replies, "but it's so close to your boobs."

In a nostalgic nod to Pamela Anderson's iconic beach run, Quinn can be seen observing Kelly Rohrbach - who stars as Anderon's character CJ Parker - saying: "Why does she always look like like she's running in slow-mo?"

Reaction to the trailer has been mixed with fans of the original Baywatch series seeming anguished that the film looks to err on the side of 21 Jump Street-style comedy.

YouTube user TheIsh1988 commented: "So it's a comedy... #sad," while CrazyMunky84 put things more bluntly, stating: "They might as well just give them the Razzie now."

It wasn't all negative, however. RAPTUREArmy guiltily admitted to enjoying the teaser, writing; "I shouldn't have laughed at that."

Several other users noted that Friends characters Joey and Chandler - keen Baywatch fans in the well-loved sitcom - would be looking forward to the film.

Both the Hoff and Pamela Anderson are confirmed to appear in the reboot that comes from director by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses).

The film will be released in the US on 19 May 2017 with a UK release date yet to be announced.
