From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ben Affleck has taken all those dodgy Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice reviews into his own leather-clad hands and written his own goddamn movie.

A clip of the actor looking sad when forced to listen to some dire critical reactions quickly went viral last week, but Batfleck is determined to turn things around and prove that his Caped Crusader is king.

Affleck’s Batman script is apparently “really cool”, according to Patrick Whitesell, CEO of his talent agency William Morris Endeavor.

“He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two so at least three times wearing the cape,” Whitesell told The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea so that’s out there as an option.”

There has been no confirmation from Warner Bros that the studio actually plans on making Affleck’s film, but given his Oscar-winning screenwriting skills on Good Will Hunting in 1998, it seems a surefire bet that they will.

Perhaps Batfleck can woo DC Comics with some dead flowers if needs be

News of a possible Batman spin-off first emerged at San Diego Comic-Con last year, when it was reported that Affleck was developing a stand-alone movie with DC’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns.

Batfleck is also set to make an appearance in DC’s much-hyped supervillain film Suicide Squad, due in UK cinemas on 5 August 2016.
