The Hitchcock drama, based on 1960's Pyscho, now comes to its final season; exploring an infamous bond between mother and son, as seen in Freddie Highmore's Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga's Norma Bates.
Jumping forward two years after last season, which ended in Norma's death following Norman's murder-suicide attempt, season five will essentially retrace the events of Hitchcock's film and complete the connection.
That means the first appearance of Marion Crane, the character played by Janet Leigh who so famously met her demise at Norman's hands in the film's iconic shower scene.
Here, it's pop star Rihanna who steps in Marion's shoes; with the trailer suggesting the series will eventually recreate her death onscreen, as it recaptures the sinister moment Norman watches Marion through a hole in the wall.
Bates Motel season 5 will premiere on Monday, 20 February at 10pm ET on A&E.
