While Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale guessed a lot right about what 2015 was going to be like, they also got a lot very wrong.
Back in 1989, the pair released the movie Back to the Future II in which Marty McFly travels forward in time to 21 October 2015. In it, Marty is given the latest technology by Doc including a hoverboard and self tying laces.
Unfortunately, neither of these things have come to be and 2015 - filled with Vine stars, Kim Kardashian and austerity - is a little more depressing than Future’s.
If Marty came to the actual 2015, what would it be like? Los Angeles comedians CollegeHumor have put together a brilliant interpretation.
“I bet they’re like futuristic self-lacing sneakers right, Doc?” says Marty at one point.
“What no, they’re called Crocs, they’re foam sandals.”
Hundreds of brands have piled in on the Back to the Future renaissance. Toyota brought Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd together, Pepsi made the film’s Pepsi Perfect, while Universal created a teaser for Jaws 19.
