From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Avengers: Infinity War has scored the biggest opening weekend of all time at both the domestic and worldwide box office: $250 million in North America and $380 million elsewhere for an eye-watering global total of $630 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Those figures don’t even include China, where the film is set to debut on 11 May.
This beats the previous record holder for domestic box office, Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $248 million, and the record holder for global box office, The Fate of the Furious, which earned $541.9 million.
Infinity War also earned the biggest Saturday of all time in North America with $83 million, as well as the biggest Sunday with an estimated $61 million; The Force Awakens only managed to beat the Marvel titan with its opening day, where Infinity War’s $106 million domestic fell behind The Force Awakens‘ $119 million.
Infinity War is the sixth film in history to top $200 million in domestic on its opening weekend, joining The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Jurassic World, The Avengers, and Black Panther.
Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
