Avengers: Age of Ultron was hyped to be one of the greatest films of all time, set to be The Empire Strikes Back of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to expectations, with the general consensus being “it was good, but not great.” There was much talk about what director Joss Whedon had cut from the final film - a couple of scenes have since been uploaded online, including one with Thor being taken over by spirits in a cave.
One rumour arose that it was originally intended that Captain Marvel would join the all-ready overstuffed Avengers. It turns out she wasn’t the only superhero set to join the team.
"In really early development there was a notion of there’d be a ton of new people", Marvel's Jeremy Latcham revealed. "And then it was like, 'well we haven’t really introduced them, we don’t know where they’re gonna come from', and Joss kind of did not love that idea. It was an early discussion, and then that kind of became just Captain Marvel, and then that felt weird just to have one new person”.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, also felt uncomfortable adding in the superhero, arguing it wouldn’t be right to have Captain Marvel without an origin story.
Feige and Latcham are currently promoting the Age of Ultron Blue-ray release, and have recently announced they intend to release a “slew of casting announcements” in the near future.
