You made it: evaded the social media avalanche of spoilers, dodged the workplace conversations, and managed to see Infinity War without a single moment ruined. Now should be a time of safety.
Cue Gwyneth Paltrow knocking down the metaphorical door with an accidental Avengers 4 spoiler that could really mean some big things for the future of the MCU.
Twitter user Ashley Renae spotted the quote in an interview with the actor published as part of Titan Publishing’s official Infinity War magazine, which saw her describe Pepper Potts’ current relationship with Tony Stark.
“Pepper and Tony had a really long journey together,” she said of her and Robert Downey Jr.’s characters. “She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married and they have a child.”
Child? Infinity War did see Tony tell Pepper about a dream he had where they did have a child together, but Pepper denied that was true. So this could be an indication of where we’ll end up with Avengers 4, with the potential for Tony to retire – and even pass the baton off to any future offspring.
Indeed, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Marvel Studios are already working on further Avengers movies and a “new franchise beyond Avengers”.
“We meet on a regular basis with our Marvel team, and we’ve plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade,” he said. So don’t put it past Marvel to be thinking an entire generation ahead on this.
