Mike Myers has further teased a possible fourth instalment for the Austin Powers franchise.

The Canadian-American actor said prospects for a new film are "looking good" and predicted that his character Dr Evil should make his return in the near future.

"You're going to see Dr Evil soon, somewhere in the culture," he told Access Online at the premiere of the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, in which he plays EMI executive Ray Foster.

Myers, who also plays the eponymous British spy in the franchise, acknowledged that movies such as the three Austin Powers instalments "take a long time to write", adding that director Jay Roach has been "super crazy".

"But we – it's looking good, so we'll see," he added.

The first movie in the spy action comedy series, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, came out in 1997 and has since earned an avid fanbase. A sequel, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, followed in 1997. The third chapter, Austin Powers in Goldmember, debuted in 2002, meaning viewers have been waiting 16 years for Powers' eccentric universe to be revived.

This isn't the first time Myers has stoked fans' hopes for a fourth flick. In May this year, he told Entertainment Tonight he would "love" to make a movie from Dr Evil's perspective.

"It would be Dr Evil one, Austin Powers four, that's how I would roll," he added.
