From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Adam Sandler’s father-in-law, Joseph Titone, has been arrested for attempting to bring a gun into a courthouse.

Titone, who is a lawyer, was stopped as he went through the security checkpoint and guards found a gun in his briefcase.

He admitted to the Sun Sentinel that the gun was his: “It was an accident. Evidently I put this gun in my briefcase at one point, intending to take it to the gun range, but that never happened. This was an honest mistake.”

He was arrested on a charge of unlicensed carrying of a concealed firearm, which is a third degree felony.

Titone acknowledged that the matter would likely be taken further: “I’ll probably have to go to court to explain it, and I will. This was an honest mistake.”

His daughter, Jackie, married Sandler in 2003 and they have two children together.

Sandler recently revealed that a plot detail in his upcoming movie, Hustle, was changed because Netflix is unavailable in China.

He told The Dan Patrick Show: “It was written originally that I find a player in China and somehow, Netflix is not in China. So [Netflix] were like, ‘Would you guys please make it so we find somebody in Latin America or Europe?’ So the next thing you know, I’m in Mallorca.”
