Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Goddamn Liam Neeson knows how to brandish a gun.

All stubble and grim stares into the distance, he has been holding a pistol on the official poster for five out of the last five films in which he’s played the protagonist - the go-to guy for roles that involve going on a mission of bloody revenge while somehow coming across as the hero in that way Hollywood manages to morally justify killing 31 people in order to retrieve one’s daughter.

In honour of his signing up to new handgun-based movie The Revenger this week, we’ve collected all of the posters on which he wields some sort of pistol (if I’ve missed any please let me know):

Run All Night (2015) - Holding gun over city

Taken 3 (2014) - Holding gun by wall

A Walk among the Tombstones (2014) - Holding gun in graveyard

A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014) - Holding gun in olden times

Non-Stop (2014) - Holding gun on crashing plane

Taken 2 (2012) - Holding gun in the darkness

Unknown (2011) - Holding gun in Berlin

Taken (2008) - The original gun hold

Seraphim Falls (2006) - Holding gun in the Wild West again
