From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who won an Oscar for writing Good Will Hunting in 1997 plan to collaborate again on The Trade, a film script based on a true story about two New York Yankees teammates in the 1970s.

The film will about Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, who caused a scandal in the 1970s when they disclosed that they had traded wives. Peterson is still together with Kekich's ex-wife.

Affleck will direct and possibly star in the film as Peterson, one of the baseball players. Damon is considering the role of Kekich. The two plan to co-produce.

The screenwriter is Dave Mandel of Seinfeld and HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Affleck's directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, starred his brother Casey Affleck, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris. He also wrote and directed his latest project, The Town, with Mad Men's Jon Hamm and Gossip Girl's Blake Lively.

An amusing twist is that Damon and Affeck are Boston Red Sox fans with a potent antipathy for the New York Yankees.
