Adam Driver reportedly walked out of a radio interview after a clip of one his past performances was played.

According to The Daily Beast, Driver was due to appear on NPR’s talk show Fresh Air to promote several of his latest roles – including his part in Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story.

Fresh Air executive producer Danny Miller is quoted as telling The Daily Beast that Driver left during a break “while we were playing back a clip from the film.”

“We don’t really understand why he left,” Miller told the publication.

“We were looking forward to the interview – [Fresh Air host Terry Gross] thinks he’s a terrific actor, he was a great guest when he was on [Fresh Air] in 2015 – so we were disappointed that we didn’t have a new interview to share with our listeners about Marriage Story.”

According to The Daily Beast, Driver was recording the interview from New York, while Gross was working from Philadelphia.

The Independent has contacted Driver’s representative for comment.

The actor has said in the past that he doesn’t like watching his past performances. He told Seth Meyers in April that this is linked to this theatre background and that he got used to not seeing his own work while doing stage plays.

In 2015, on a previous episode of Fresh Air, Gross pointed out that Driver had removed his headphones while a clip of himself played, meaning he hadn’t heard it. He jokingly said he had done so “’cause I don’t want to hear the bad acting that probably was happening during that clip”.

Asked whether hearing himself act throws him off, Driver added: “Yeah, no, I’ve watched myself or listened to myself before, then always hate it. And then wish I could change it, but you can’t. And I – you know, I think I have, like, a tendency to try to make things better or drive myself and the other people around me crazy with the things I wanted to change or I wish I could change.”
