The Independent is happy to unveil an exclusive clip from Oscar-nominated Chilean drama A Fantastic Woman.

Directed by Sebastián Lelio (Gloria, forthcoming drama Disobedience), the new film follows a transgender singer named Marina who faces scorn and discrimination after the sudden death of her older boyfriend (Francisco Reyes).

A Fantastic Woman has been scoring rave reviews ever since it won the Silver Bear award for Best Screenplay at Berlin International Film Festival last year, winning immense praise for its showstopping central performance from transgender actress and singer Daniela Vega

Multiple award nominations followed including a Golden Globe nod for Best Foreign Language film.

Next month, the film will compete in that same category at the Academy Awards against such films as Loveless and The Square.

After 91 reviews, A Fantastic Woman currently holds an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%.

Lelio's next film, Disobedience, stars Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams and tracks a woman's return to the community that shunned her for her attraction to a childhood friend.

A Fantastic Woman is released in UK cinemas on 2 March
