From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

A 90-second trailer ran before Iron Man 2 midnight screenings on May 7 in the US, unveiling an upcoming film called Super 8, a collaboration between J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg.

If you want to be surprised read no further: the enticing teaser shows footage reminiscent of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. A pickup truck barrels toward a train and crashes intercut with frames that state: in 1979 the US Air Force closed a section of Area 51. All materials were to be transported to a secure facility in Ohio. Next Summer. It arrives.

The film starts shooting this fall for a July 2011 release. Abrams wrote the Super 8 script and will direct the film with Spielberg as producer. He directed Star Trek in 2009 and Mission Impossible III, and produced television shows Lost and Fringe.

Similar to the way Abrams rolled out Cloverfield, the mystery remains. Speculation suggests the story has some supernatural or alien connection and the website is not divulging any more yet.
