Your support makes all the difference.Marvel Studios announced today that Hugo Weaving has been cast to star as Johann Schmidt, aka the Red Skull, in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Weaving is well-known as Agent Smith in The Matrix films. He has also starred in The Wolfman and The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as providing his voice for Megatron in Transformers movies. He will appear in The Hobbit 1 and 2.
In April, Chris Evans ( The Losers, the Fantastic Four films) was finally cast in the title role (aka Steve Rogers), after much speculation. The film's director is Joe Johnson ( The Wolfman, Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III).
Co-stars include Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Howard Stark (both from Iron Man 2), British actress Hayley Atwell ( The Prisoner, Brideshead Revisited), and Sebastian Stan ( Gossip Girl, Hot Tub Time Machine).
The story follows Steve Rogers, who volunteers for the military's top secret Super Soldier program which transforms him into superhero Captain America. After being frozen for six decades by his archenemy, he must join the Modern Age of Avengers.
Captain America will be released in the US on July 22, 2011. In addition to Iron Man 2, other Marvel Comics coming to the big screen include Thor on May 2011 with
