From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The first trailer for X-Men: First Class was released on February 10 with much-anticipated images of the rebooted Marvel Comics franchise - without Hugh Jackman from the previous films in the superhero series.

It opens by establishing the early days: "Before he was Professor X...he was Charles," with a shot of James McAvoy ( Atonement), and "Before he was Magneto...he was Erik," and a shot of Michael Fassbender ( Inglourious Basterds).

This prequel, set in the 1960s, shows the start of the X-Men saga with the backdrop of the Cold War. There are glimpses of Charles and Erik as close friends discovering their powers and working together to save the world from a nuclear Armageddon.

The footage reveals intriguing special effects with images of their fellow Mutants, and after they turn into archenemies the strange airships do battle in the war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn ( Kick-Ass), the film features Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence ( Winter's Bone) as Raven Darkholme/Mystique, January Jones ( Mad Men) as Emma Frost, Rose Byrne ( Get Him to the Greek), and Kevin Bacon ( Frost/Nixon).

X-Men: First Class hits theaters on June 3.
