Your support makes all the difference.After successfully adapting his stage plays for the big screen, notably the Madea series, Tyler Perry has selected a Tony-winning play from 1966, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf by Ntozake Shange, as the source for his next film.
The just-released trailer depicts the film's stars, Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Kerry Washington ( The Last King of Scotland), singer Macy Gray, Loretta Devine ( Death at a Funeral), and the director himself, Tyler Perry.
The footage is set to a Nina Simone song, "Four Women" and shows impressionistic excerpts from the film. Originally involving 20 poems told by seven different women, the film For Colored Girls, using the abbreviated title, relates different perspectives from 20 black females about their existence.
It indicates an artistic departure for Perry, who usually directs comedies, winning a substantial fan base of primarily African American moviegoers. His last film, Why Did I Get Married Too? earned $30.1 million earlier this year. He also co-produced Precious with Oprah Winfrey.
The film is due in US theaters November 5.
