After dinner, guests sashayed into the hotel's glorious ballroom where Bafta's Soho House Grey Goose afterparty kicked off.
Luminous blue and green bars served an array of Grey Goose cocktails, the Taittinger flowed, and The Feeling played a set.
Kirsty Young emerged in a black, plunging number, while Penelope Cruz channelled Audrey Hepburn, with a thick fringe and a circle of beautiful friends.
Late, the party moved upstairs to the 86 Park Lane area, decorated in the Soho House lounge style. Fiona Shaw kissed Stephen Daldry, Kate Winslet glimmered in diamonds, and Claudia Winkleman – in black trouser suit and sultry eye make-up – relaxed after hours of red carpet interviewing.
Slumdog's cast formed a triumphant huddle, with Dev Patel, Freida Pinto and Danny Boyle at its centre, while Bollywood's Anil Kapoor demurely looked on. Tamara Mellon shimmered in black, with Christian Slater at her side. Brad and Angelina gave it a miss – but who noticed?
