Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The last film I saw was called 'A Prophet' by French director Jacques Audiard. It is one of the best films I've seen in a very long time. I also loved 'The White Ribbon' by Austrian film-maker Michael Haneke.
Television
Actually, I don't really watch TV! I've kind of got out of the habit, so I don't really know what's on. I was definitely not caught up in the 'X Factor' madness. I think it's a disgrace!
Books
Recently, I've really been enjoying reading novels by Ali Smith. In particular, 'The First Person and Other Stories', and also an incredible novel by her called 'The Accidental'.
Dance
'Svapnagata' at Sadler's Wells was incredible. It was a festival of Indian music and dance curated by Akram Khan and Nitin Sawhney.
Music
I am listening to a band called Beirut at the moment. It was recommended to me. I really like the gypsy sound they have. I've also been listening to a lot of Anoushka Shankar among a lot of other Indian-style music, which I am very into at the moment.
Joe Wright directed 'The Soloist' which is out on DVD from 1st February 2010
