Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

I've seen Gravity twice on the big screen, I can’t imagine there’s going to be something else that comes along that blows me away quite like that did. I know people that worked on it, not just Alfonso Cuaron the director, but the composer Steven Price also did my film The Worlds End. I also really enjoyed Short Term 12, Frances Ha, Blue Jasmine, I really really liked Spring Breakers.
Television
In one big marathon on 4OD, I watched all of Toast of London, the Matt Berry show with Arthur Mathews which I thought was really funny. I also watched Mark Gatiss's Adventure of Space and Time, the documentary about the making of the first Dr Who with David Bradley.
Books
I read Stuart Maconie’s interesting book The People's Songs about the history of British Pop Songs. I also read Nile Rogers biography Le Freak, and Stephen King's Joyland, which is the first King book I’ve read in 20 years.
Theatre
I saw The Audience which was fantastic. The Cripple of Inishmaan with Daniel Radcliffe which was good. I also saw Chimerica, The Book of Mormon, Macbeth with James McAvoy, and Joe Wright's Trelawney of the Wells so that’s pretty good going!
Edgar Wright’s film The World’s End is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.
