Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. In an international deal with Universal Pictures and Madrid's Apaches Entertainment, the film Intruders has cast Clive Owen and Daniel Bruhl ( Inglourious Basterds).
The story centers around an 11-year-old girl forced to confront childhood demons and Owen will play her father. He also appears in Spike Lee's Inside Man 2 with Denzel Washington and Trust directed by actor David Schwimmer. Production begins in June in London and Madrid. The director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, also wrote and directed the 2007 horror thriller 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later.
Comedic actor Jack Black ( School of Rock, Year One, Tropic Thunder) will expand his horizons with a television production deal between his production company, Electric Dynamite, and Reveille to create online scripted comedies, reality shows and animation projects.
Not a stranger to TV, his show Tenacious D ran on HBO and Black has appeared on the American version of The Office with Steve Carell and Community with Chevy Chase.
Far from leaving film, in December Black stars in Gulliver's Travels with Emily Blunt and Billy Connelly. Directed by Rob Letterman ( Monsters vs. Aliens) the movie follows a travel writer whose assignment in Bermuda has hime end up on the island of Lilliput. Next year he co-stars with Owen Wilson and Steve Martin in The Big Year about competing birdwatchers.
