From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Beyoncé has published a trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey on her Instagram, suggesting that she is to have some involvement with the film’s soundtrack (scroll to watch).

The short clip features a remix (code for hypersexualised version) of the singer’s Crazy in Love track, as well as some heavy breathing and a close-up shot of what are the hands and legs of presumably Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, who star as leads Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Other ‘highlights’ include a shot of Dornan’s back as he stares, probably broodingly, out a window.

Beyoncé added little more to the trailer, other than a caption reading “#fiftyshades”. But suffice to say, it’s not unimaginable that the singer’s breathy, charged voice will appear on the soundtrack in some capacity. Or maybe she and Jay-Z are just huge fans of the books.

The official trailer launches on Thursday 24 July, while the film – directed by Sam Taylor Johnson - arrives in cinemas on 14 February next year.

EL James’ original book trilogy of the same name has become one of the biggest-selling literary series of all time, selling 100million copies worldwide.
