Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Ride are reuniting for the first time in 20 years to headline Field Day next summer.

The Oxford 'shoegaze' band, who shunned Eighties pop to pave the way for Primal Scream and Oasis, announced the news this morning.

“We are very excited to be playing at Field Day 2015,” the group said. “We look forward to wrapping it all up on the main stage on Sunday night, where we’ll be playing our first UK festival show since Glastonbury 1994.”

Tom Baker, Field Day co-founder, also spoke of his excitement at the booking: “Ride have been a band I’ve loved for over 20 years – “Dreams Burn Down” was the first drum beat I ever learned!

“To be part of them coming back to play their first live shows in 20 years is absolutely amazing and something I’ve dreamed of.”

Ride will also take to the stage at Manchester’s Albert Hall on 23 May and London’s Roundhouse on 24 May.

Consisting of Andy Bell, Mark Gardener, Laurence ‘Loz’ Colbert and Steve Queralt, the band last performed together in the UK as special guests to Oasis at the Brighton Centre in December 1994.

Benacassim Festival in 1995 marked their final live performance, until now, despite much protesting from fans. In 2001, Radiohead tried to persuade Ride to reunite and support them in Oxford, but they failed.

Since then, Bell has played with Hurricane #1, Oasis and Beady Eye (who announced their split last month), while Gardener and Colbert worked and played together for an album with The Animalhouse. Queralt opted to retire from music.

Tickets for Ride’s upcoming three gigs will be on sale on 21 November at 9am here.
