Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. With many of the romantic street scenes from the film Bridget Jones's Diary shot nearby on Shad Thames, Tower Bridge is the perfect location for a Valentine's Day event with a difference. For less than a tenner, a couple can enjoy a romantic stroll along the high walkways of London's most distinctive landmark, one that has straddled the Thames since 1894.
Couples - or singletons of a masochistic persuasion - will be invited to ascend the original Victorian staircase of Tower Bridge, and will be rewarded at the top with two glasses of champagne and a spectacular view from 120 feet above the river. The glass-covered walkways overlook the City to the east and St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London and the Monument to the west. The organisers are happy to remind visitors, who may get carried away with the romance of the occasion, that the walkways are carpeted, just in case they have plans to go down on one knee.
Tower Bridge, London SE1 (020-7407 9191) 5pm-10pm, pounds 8 per couple
