From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Certainly, the voters on listicle website Ranker seemed to think so, bestowing the recent holiday classic with the title of 'The Best PG Christmas Movie' - which is basically all Christmas movies, unless you've decided to fly the flag for Bad Santa or can only feel that magical Christmas spirit after Bruce Willis kills a few dudes in Die Hard.
However, what's fairly obvious from the list is that it's been voted by '90s kids recalling their most treasured memories from their childhoods, explaining the proliferation of newer films like The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Santa Clause.
That leaves the true tried-and-tested classics to wallow right near the bottom of the list, with Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life wallowing near the bottom. There's also the very questionable inclusion of known-flop, the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring Jingle All the Way.
You can check out the top 10 below:
1. Elf
2. The Santa Clause
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas
4. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas
5. A Christmas Story
6. Jingle All the Way
7. A Christmas Carol
8. Home Alone
9. Deck the Halls
10. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
