Inspired by Kafka's America, RS9 Theatre from Hungary tells the story of a generation of immigrants who got sold on the land of dreams. The result is a difficult movement piece, which contains some of the most arresting stage sequences of this year's Fringe. Arriving in America, the boy hero falls into the arms of a whore. Then, in grotesque caricatured movement, two besuited yankees arrive, one to crush the hero, the other to maul the whore. In these best moments, RS9 recalls the atmosphere (as well as the theme and style) of Teatr Nowy's legendary 1985 production The End of Europe.
DEAF (venue 22), 3 York Lane (031-557 0707). 8.30pm to 4 Sept.
