The hair-raising tales of Bill Bryson and Michael Palin and their ilk are sure to help with digestion.

l The long-awaited reopening of Pierre Koffmann's triple Michelin-starred La Tante Claire (0171 493 5699) - which many foodies regard as the country's finest restaurant - is set to take place in November. The restaurant has moved from Chelsea to a new home in London's Berkeley Hotel, but Koffmann assures us there will be no other changes - he'll still be cooking full time.
l If fish is your thing, you'll be pleased to learn that the owners of London's trendy (and pricey) Bank restaurant (0171 379 9797) are about to launch a chain of more informal (and affordable) cafes, called Fish! Diners. By the end of the year the first will open in London's Borough Market; others are to follow.
